Complete Storyline and information about Top Gun: Maverick
After more than 30 years of service as a first-class Navy aviator, Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise), better known as Maverick, is where he belongs: pushing his limits as a test pilot to prove his mettle. He tries to dodge promotions in rank, as they would tie him to the ground forever – just like Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky (Val Kilmer), who has since risen to admiral.
But a young squad of pilots to be trained such as Goose’s son Rooster (Miles Teller), Hangman (Glen Powell), Bob (Lewis Pullman) and Phoenix (Monica Barbaro) are also moving up to claim their place in the sky. In addition, single mother Penny Benjamin (Jennifer Connelly) has taken a liking to Maverick.
Background & Info on Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun 2 is the sequel to the 1986 aviator film Top Gun – They Fear Neither Death Nor the Devil. The sequel had been in the planning stages since at least 2010, but filmmaker Tony Scott’s suicide, among other things, delayed a quick realization.
It wasn’t until May 2017 that lead actor Tom Cruise confirmed that Top Gun 2 was officially in the works and that he would be reprising his iconic role. A month later, the additional title Maverick was also announced. The directing job was taken by Joseph Kosinski, with whom Tom Cruise had already filmed Oblivion.
Originally, Top Gun: Maverick was supposed to celebrate its theatrical release already in July 2019, but was then postponed by a year. In 2020, however, the Corona pandemic then intervened. Netflix and Apple TV+ attempted to acquire distribution rights, but production company Paramount held out for an initial theatrical release. (ES)
