France, 1939: the invasion by the German Wehrmacht is in full swing and the two sisters Vianne and Isabelle must try in their own way to get through this situation.
Vianne lives alone in her home with her daughter while her husband fights in the war. When a German officer seizes her home, she must decide whether to live with the enemy or flee with her daughter to an uncertain future.
