Complete Storyline and information about The Green Knight
Gawain (Dev Patel) is a nephew of the legendary King Arthur. Stubborn and daredevil, he wants to achieve great things. So far, however, he hasn’t had a chance to earn a reputation as a knight. That changes one Christmas when a giant figure enters the castle: the tree-like Green Knight.
The giant foe challenges a brave to battle, and Gawain volunteers. But the stranger utters a warning: Whatever his opponent does to him, he will repay him in a year in the same coin. Then he is to appear in his chapel in the north of the country. Gawain agrees to the promise. In order to fully earn his fame, he cuts off the head of the Green Knight.
But the slain man rises again and reminds Gawain of his pact. A year later, the now famous knight must set out. A long journey awaits him, where giants, thieves and ghosts are waiting for him and he has to prove his character. But how will his renewed confrontation with the ultimate enemy end?
Background & Info on The Green Knight
The Green Knight is based on a 14th century medieval chivalric romance, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Only one copy of the poem has survived and the author is an unknown.
David Lowery, who has already demonstrated a knack for unusual adaptations of fantastic material with films such as A Ghost Story (2017) and Elliot the Dragon (2016), first announced his reimagining of The Green Knight in November 2018. Scheduled for a 2020 theatrical release, the Corona pandemic shifted a year to 2021.
In The Green Knight, Joel Edgerton mimes a lord. In the film adaptation King Arthur (2004), on the other hand, he had wittily played the knight Sir Gawain himself, who is now embodied by Dev Patel. (ES)
