Complete Storyline and information about Raya and the Last Dragon
Young Raya lives in the (fictional) land of Kumandra. There, humans and dragons have long lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened their world, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
500 years later, the ancient threat returns, but now there are no more dragons. Or maybe there are? The young warrior Raya believes in the legend of a last remaining dragon and decides to find the mythical creature. With it, the divided land and people could finally find peace again. But on her journey, Raya must learn that it takes far more than a dragon to save the world. For the fate of the world is never in the hands of just one being.
Background & Info on Raya and the Last Dragon
After many sequels such as The Ice Queen 2 (2019) and Chaos on the Web (2018), Walt Disney Animation Studios created with Raya and the Last Dragon for the first time since Vaiana (2016) again an original material. In common with films like Vaian and The Ice Queen, Raya and the Last Dragon has Raya being a princess again, even when she goes off as a fighter.
Inspired by Southeast Asian culture, Raya and the Last Dragon therefore borrows from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos and the Philippines. Seven years after Baymax and 23 years after Mulan, this was the first time Disney created an Asian main character for a theatrical animated film.
Originally, Raya and the Last Dragon had been scheduled to hit theaters in the fall of 2020. However, due to the Corona pandemic, the start of the animated film was postponed. In Germany, Raya and the Last Dragon premiered on Disney+ along with the short film Us Again on March 5, 2021. (ES)
