Hidden in the sealed-off Las Vegas are treasures of incredible value that could not be recovered before the city was evacuated. The group is led by the fearless Scott Ward (Dave Bautista).
Background and info about Army of the Dead
Army of the Dead was in development hell for years at Universal and Warner Bros. before Netflix secured the rights to the project in January 2019 and guaranteed a $90 million budget. Filming starts in July 2019 under the direction of Zack Snyder, who also served as producer, cinematographer and – along with Joby Harold and Shay Hatten – screenwriter.
In August 2020, actor Chris D’Elia was replaced by stand-up comedienne Tig Nataro. The deciding factor was sexual abuse allegations against the actor. Zack Snyder decided to rewrite his character and reshoot the relevant scenes with Nataro. The new footage was digitally merged with the existing footage.
Snyder combines various genres in Army of the Dead. The film can most easily be classified as a zombie film and thus brings numerous horror and gore elements. In addition, the film has a great focus on action, not to mention the dynamics that come into the film through the large ensemble. In addition, Army of the Dead sees itself as a heist film.
Army of the Dead was conceived as the kickoff of a new zombie universe on Netflix. Even before the film’s release, the first two spin-offs were set: The anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas tells the back story of Dave Bautista’s character. It will be joined by the prequel Army of Thieves, directed by and starring Matthias Schweighöfer, about the character Ludwig Dieter. (MH.)
